Established in 2014, as a follow up to Beckett’s Table, Southern Rail was the melding of owner Scott Stephens’ roots of growing up in Louisiana and Chef Beckett’s love for Southern cuisine. Chef Beckett and Scott toured the southern states, eating and immersing themselves in the culture. Their food trips and soulful meals became the inspiration for Southern Rail.

With an emerging Phoenix culinary scene Chef Justin and Michelle Beckett, Scott and Katie Stephens were excited by an offer to participate in a revitalization project that would be a cornerstone for Central Phoenix renewal. The Newton was raised from the iconic Beef Eaters building. Together Southern Rail with our neighbors Changing Hands Bookstore, First Draft Bookbar, and Southwest Gardner make up The Newton, an 18,000 s/ft destination to gather, shop, eat, and read.
